Fairfield California |
The earliest native inhabitants of the Fairfield area were the Indians who settled in the Rockville and Green Valley areas. Fairfield was founded in 1856 and formally incorporated as a city in 1903.
Fairfield is located in Solano County, of which it is the county seat, just northeast of San Francisco between Vallejo and Sacramento along Interstate 80 near Suisun Bay and the San Francisco Bay. It was named by a ship captain after his home in Connecticut.
There is also a Fairfield, New Jersey.
