San Mateo County General Hospital

Like the aging hospital it replaces, the new San Mateo County Health Center, which includes out-patient clinics and other medical offices, has 227 beds, and admits anyone regardless of the ability to pay. The hospital states the services are on par with or better than a patient would find at private hospitals.

An emergency room is open around the clock and includes an area for treating people exposed to hazardous chemicals or gases.

The completed nursing wing includes 34 beds for people suffering acute psychiatric problems, replacing a ward built in 1923.
