Red Bluff California

The Victorian Town on the River

Red Bluff is located in Tehama County, of which it is the county seat, south of Redding between Redding and Chico along Interstate 5 on the banks of the Sacramento River.

Highway 99 merges with Interstate-5 at Red Bluff. Highway-99 extends south from Red Bluff, all the way to Roseville where it merges with Interstate 80, northeast of Sacramento.

First settled in the 1840's and incorporated in 1876, Red Bluff served an important role in the early history of the North State. Lumber and agricultural products were the primary exports.

The City takes its name from the color of the terrain on the West Bank of the Sacramento River. In fact, the town was first dubbed "Red Bluffs"; this was dropped by about 1856.

Red Bluff is known for its beautifully restored Victorian homes. A tour through historic Red Bluff is not time wasted. Many of the pre-1900 Victorian homes have been painstakingly restored either as homes or professional offices. The restored Victorians and additional commerce buildings downtown contribute to a unique small town charm that attracts residents and visitors alike.

The area south of Red Bluff, along Highway-99, is real "California Country". A Rural and agricultural atmosphere prevails. Many retirees have made their homes among the the numerous orchards along Highway-99 and on quiet lanes and county backroads.
