Tuolumne County Museum |
The Tuolumne County Museum and History Center is a museum devoted to local historical displays, genealogical research and the Tuolumne County History Collection. Displays of Gold Rush era items such as photographs, guns, antiques, artifacts, and gold are displayed. A Pioneer Trails exhibit is also available to visitors of the museum.
The museum was built in 1857 as the Tuolumne County Jail and rebuilt in 1865 following a disastrous fire that killed the inmate who is thought to have started it. This museum displays the rich history of the Wild West, California, and the Gold Rush era.
